Exhibit H — Wildlife Information
Paul Banks and Associates, LLC
The proposed reclamation permit site contains a gravel pit lake, three buildings and
vacant rangeland. The site has been largely disturbed by a now gone trailer park.
Native groundcover and habitat is not evident within the proposed affected area. As a
result, the proposed permit site does not generally contain any significant values as a
wildlife resource.
A review of relevant literature, indicates habitat of the following species may be present
on or near the subject site:
• Elk
• Mule Deer
• Black Bear
• Bald Eagle
• Golden Eagle
• Canada Goose
• Other Fish
The bald eagle is the only listed Threatened or Endangered Species with potential
habitat on the site (currently proposed for de- listing). Eagles have been observed in the
vicinity but not specifically nesting or roosting on the site. In any event, mining will be
setback over 1000 feet from the Colorado River, where the canopy of Cottonwood trees
presents the greatest possibility of bald eagle activity. This project is not anticipated to
affect any regulated species.
In general, the mining operation will have no significant effect on wildlife during the
proposed operation. Site disturbance will be limited and mitigated by design to areas in
the immediate vicinity of sand and gravel extraction and processing.
Following reclamation, the site will be generally suitable for wildlife uses similar to the
pre- mining condition, though with no specific wildlife function as a condition of
reclamation. The post- mining use of rangeland and a pond does not specifically
encourage habitat, though this function and the attendant design for general wildlife
values is recognized. The creation of groundwater lakes may have some effect to
enhance fisheries for avian predators.
Debeque Sand and Gravel Resource 11019
Oldcastle Southwest Group, Inc. 18 November 2011
