MANAGEMENT
On behalf of Bear Coal Company, Inc., enclosed is an application for a technical
revision to provide for the installation of a 12 inch diameter treatment pond bypass line.
The 300 foot long bypass pipeline is shown on drawing 11 -4.
The treatment pond is utilized to passively treat the spring water that is emerging from
the slide. The pond has not significantly improved the quality of the water. Conductivity
measurements for the spring and pond discharge are similar. The passive treatment
pond increases the pH of the spring water.
DRMS approval will be obtained before the bypass pipeline is put in service. The
treatment pond will be reclaimed shortly after the pond bypass line is installed.
Amended pages 2.05 -ii, 22, 23 and drawing 11 -4 are enclosed. Please call if you have any
questions.
Sincerely,
J. E. Stover, P.E.
Consulting Engineer
