HISTORY
November 14, 2011
vMichael A. Cunningham
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Rm. 215
Denver, CO 80203
4/
ECEN
NOV 17Z011
L Division ui Keclamation
Y Mining and Safety
Re: Calais Resources Colorado, Inc., Cross Gold Mine, Permit No. M- 1977 -410 (CHS #60696)
Dear Mr. Cunningham:
Thank you for your correspondence dated October 31, 2011 (received by our office on November 2,
2011) and the documentation regarding the subject project.
A search of the Colorado Cultural Resource Inventory database indicates that the Cross Mine (also
known as the Cross Lode and Boston and Idaho Tunnels) has been recorded, most recently by staff
from the Boulder County Parks and Open Space Department in 2008. While our office has some
information related to the Cross Mine site (5BL9655), a comprehensive survey of the mine has not
taken place nor has an official determination of eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places
(NRHP) occured. We recommend that mining- related activities associated with the increased permit
area avoid impacts to historic structures and features within this mine complex until a comprehensive
survey can be undertaken to determine the significance and eligibility of the mine for the NKHP.
Should human remains be discovered during resource extraction activities the requirements under State
law CRS 24 -80 part 13 apply and must be followed.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment. If we may be of further assistance, please contact Mark
Tobias, Section 106 Compliance Manager, at (303) 866 -4674 or mark.tobias @state.co.us.
Sincerely,
;..1 Edward C.
