nearest 0. 10 gram and reported in g /m and lbs. /acre. Clipped
samples less than 0.10 gram shall be reported as trace samples.
Average bag weight shall be calculated and subtracted from
weighed samples.
Woody Plant Density Data Collection
Woody plant density data will be collected at random locations on
reclaimed areas in conjunction with cover transects. A 2 -meter
wide by 50 meter or 4 -meter by 25 meter long belt transect
(depending on distance to next sample point) will be established in
the direction of the next sampling point. Then within each belt, all
woody plants (shrubs, trees, sub - shrubs, and succulents) will be
enumerated by species. On sampling areas smaller than 1.5
acres, total counts of live shrubs may be conducted. This would
require systematically walking the entire unit and recording every
live shrub within that unit. Stem count will be recorded by species
and reported as stems per acre. No shrub height measurements
will be taken.
Sample Adequacy
Sample adequacy calculations for reference and reclaimed area
cover, production and woody plant density sampling will utilize one
of the following formulas. The following formula will be used for
reference and reclaimed area sampling when hypothesis testing is
not required.
N t 2 S 2 /(dx)
Where:
N = Minimum number of samples required
S = Sample variance
d = Precision (.10)
x = Sample mean
t =The (a =.1 0) t -table value for a single tailed t -test
with (n -1) degrees of freedom
TR -60 14 -21 (Rev 03/11)
