•
•
•
The first 20 acre segment will be cleared of vegetation, dewatering trenches dug, and
stripped of topsoil and overburden during the winter months. Mining of the sand and
gravel will commence in the early spring of that first year and continue through year.
The sand and gravel will first be run through a primary screen to separate out fine sand
and clay. Approximately 50% of the mined material will be rejected by the screen. This
reject will be moved by a loader to the excavated area to become the bottom ten to 13 feet
of the backfill.
At the end of the first mining season, the second mining segment will be cleared of
vegetation. The topsoil and overburden will be stripped and deposited in its same layers
on top of the reject material of the first mining segment. The final backfill elevation will
be two feet above the average groundwater table. The area will be grass seeded in early
spring.
The mining of the second segment will progress as the first segment. When done, the
second segment is partially backfilled with reject material and is ready to accept the
topsoil and overburden from the third segment.
The topsoil and overburden for the third mining segment comes from the stockpiled
topsoil and overburden from the first mining segment. This last segment will be grass
seeded in the next spring following the mining.
(f) The final grading, seeding, fertilization, revegetation, and topsoiling have been
previously described in this section.
