• <br />Specifications for this well were stipulated by BLM to address issues related to <br />environmental analysis of the Sunday Mines Group as required by the National <br />Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA). This well is also proposed as a component <br />of this Environmental Protection Plan, and monitoring data from the well will be <br />provided to both BLM and DRMS. <br />11.2.2 Monitoring Well Installation and Aquifer Testing <br />All monitoring wells will be installed by qualified persons licensed in the state of <br />Colorado. A critical aspect of well installation is identification of the proper <br />stratigraphic location for the screened interval of the well. The wells are planned to be <br />screened within the Top Rim sandstone of the Salt Wash Member of the Morrison <br />Formation at a depth of approximately 800 to 1,000 feet. Both lithological logging of <br />drill cuttings and down -hole geophysical methods will be used to identify the proper <br />stratigraphic location for the screened interval of the monitoring wells. <br />Pumping tests will also be completed at each monitoring well to measure aquifer <br />characteristics including transmissivity and hydraulic conductivity. These data will <br />supplement existing USGS data, and better define the local groundwater system. The <br />site - specific hydraulic conductivity data will be utilized along with water level data to <br />better understand groundwater flow directions and velocity in the area of the <br />underground mine workings. <br />11.2.3 Groundwater Sampling <br />Groundwater sampling will be conducted on a quarterly basis at each well. <br />Groundwater sampling will be conducted throughout the life of the Sunday Mines <br />Group until reclamation liability is released by DRMS. Groundwater sampling will <br />include measuring the static water table with a well probe or other suitable <br />instrument; purging the well in accordance with best practices; measurement of field <br />parameters including specific conductance, pH, and oxidation reduction potential; <br />and collection of samples for laboratory analyses. Laboratory analyses will be <br />conducted on samples filtered to 0.45 microns, and will include the following: <br />® All parameters listed in Table 1 through 4 of the BSGW for a period of one <br />year with the exception of total coliforms, asbestos, free cyanide, chlorophenol, <br />color, corrositivity, foaming agents, odor, and phenol; and <br />ri Radium 226 and 228 which are designated in state -wide standards set forth in <br />BSGW §41.5(C)(2); <br />o Major cations and anions; <br />Groundwater samples will be submitted for laboratory analyses and analytical <br />method reporting limits will be below criteria presented in Table 1 through 4 of the <br />BSGW. After completion of five quarters of monitoring, the sampling frequency <br />and /or analyte list may be reduced with DRMS approval.
