The other wells
in the general area of the Sunday Mines Group are located at extensive distances (i.e.i
greater than four miles) and /or are upgradient from the mine areas. Information
regarding the depth of the wells is not available.
Notes: New Mexico Principal Meridian
Potential future uses of groundwater in the area of the Sunday Mines Group are
limited by the land ownership and the BLM Management Plan for the area. The
affected areas of the Sunday Mines Group are included within Management Area 3
(MA 3): Natural Landscape with Limited Management. Management activities for areas
with this designation are defined as follows (BLM 2008):
Management activities are allowed, but limited, on MA 3s. They occur mostly
for restoration purposes needed because of natural disturbance events or past
management actions. Management activities may include restoration of
ecological conditions or habitat components; prescribed burns; wildland fire
use; salvage logging following fire, insect epidemics, and/or wind events;
hazardous fuels reduction; and invasive species reduction. Temporary road
construction and motorized equipment may be used in order to achieve desired
conditions; however, most roads would be closed upon project completion.
Most MA 3s emphasize non - motorized recreation opportunities, but
motorized travel occurs in some areas on existing roads and some trails.
Livestock grazing occurs on many of these lands.
As described in the BLM Management Plan designation, BLM intends to manage this
area with very limited disturbance. Future development that would be expected is
continued mining in the area of the Sunday Mines Group. In addition, oil and gas
exploration and /or additional uranium exploration may occur. It is unlikely that
either the land ownership or the land uses in this area will change markedly in the
future. As a result, groundwater uses are not expected to change markedly in the
foreseeable future.
7 -16
C (Documents an Settings(cwoodward.DMC \Desktop \Environmental Protection Plan Sunday Mines Revised November 2011 rev1 (2) 11 10 11.doca
