1.2.3 Ponds and Direct Discharges
All sediment ponds and direct discharge points are permitted under NPDES Permits
CO- 0000906. Sampling stations for this permit are described below.
NE -001 is a grab sample station from the New Elk Mine water discharge V -notch flume
located on the Purgatoire River for NPDES Discharge Permit CO- 0000906. The station
monitors the quality and quantity of mine water discharge from the New Elk Mine. During the
third quarter of 1989, the mine was sealed and the discharge of mine inflow water was
terminated until pumping resumed in December of 2008.
