3. Congressionally Designated Areas: <br />Wilderness Areas: <br />The nearest wilderness area, La Garita Wilderness Area, is approximately seven <br />miles north of the project area. Impacts of this project will remain in the <br />immediate area of activity and will not affect the La Garita Wilderness Area. <br />Wilderness Study Areas: <br />Handie's Peak Wilderness Study Area is approximately 20 miles southwest of the <br />project area. This decision will not affect Wilderness Study Areas. <br />National Recreation Areas: <br />There are no National Recreation Areas on the Forest. This decision will not <br />affect National Recreation Areas. <br />Inventoried Roadless Areas (IRA): <br />The Bristol Head IRA is approximately 2 miles northwest of the project area. This <br />decision will not affect any Inventoried Roadless Areas. <br />4. Research Natural Areas (RNA): <br />The Finger Mesa RNA is located approximately 20 miles southwest of the project <br />area. The project will not affect the RNA <br />5. American Indians and Alaska Native religious or cultural sites: <br />This project will not have any effects on known Native American religious or <br />cultural sites. <br />6. Archaeological sites, or historic properties or areas; <br />A cultural survey was conducted. There were no cultural resources in the area, <br />and clearance for the proposed action was granted. This project will have no <br />effect on National Register of Historic Places eligible sites. <br />Scoping and Public Involvement: <br />Internal scoping within the Forest Service occurred with the District Ranger and the Inter <br />Disciplinary Team. A Wildlife Biological Assessment and Evaluation, a Biological <br />Assessment and Evaluation for Plants, and a Cultural Resource Inventory were conducted <br />for this project by the Rio Grande National Forest specialists. Hydrological and soil <br />reports were also included. <br />A legal notice was published in the Valley Courier on September 23, 2011 for public <br />comment. This project was listed in the September 2011 Forest's Schedule of Proposed <br />Actions. No responses were received. <br />Underground Exploration at Bulldog Mine Wage <br />
