We
should know more about the DRMS bond. I would like the portion for Preble's mitigation to be
fairly substantial. In the unlikely event that the whole project tanked, someone would have to
address impacts of the upstream wall being left in place.
Response 3: Depending on the type of mitigation that we are proposing, we have calculated
estimated costs for mitigation activities on a unit cost basis depending on the type of mitigation
proposed (i.e. riparian/upland, grasses /shrubs /willows /trees, etc.). Table 3 lists Phase 1
mitigation areas, unit costs for mitigation and costs for each area, with an overall cost with a
15% contingency provided at the bottom of the table. Unit costs were developed based on
Denver Urban Drainage and Flood Control District (UDFCD) cost data and IRIS' and WWE's
past experience with similar projects. The details of the financial assurances will be addressed in
accordance with the DRMS Hard Rock Mining Regulations.
Schwartzwalder Mine Phase 1 Page 7 October 2011
Response to USFWS Comments
