November 2, 2011 C- 1980- 007/West Elk Mine MPB
Robin Schiro and Ryan Sweetwood then accompanied me to the site of the test to inspect the river. I directed
MCC personnel to collect field parameter information and we inspected the river to determine if collecting
samples for laboratory analysis would be warranted. Ryan Sweetwood waded to the other side of the river where
blue flags were still in place indicating the location of the transect lines. We collected pH, temperature and
conductivity data at four locations including upstream of the point of input and below at the first three transect line
locations (see Photograph No. 4). The data were recorded electronically and provided to the Division via
facsimile later that day. The data do not show any significant anomalies with regard to pH, temperature, and
conductivity between the upstream versus three downstream sample points. Since there was no physical evidence
or visual indication of remnant dye or other environmental damage it was determined that collecting samples for
laboratory analysis was not warranted at the time of the inspection. The field data listed below is shown as it was
provided by MCC.
North Fork of Gunnison River Samples
Transect
55
57
59
Time pH Temperatureff) Conductivity (umhos /cm)
2:18PM 8.18 5.20 200.7
2:20PM 8.20
Prior to pt of input
8.21
8.26
6.00
5.60
4.70
228.0
211.0
208.5
Following collection of field parameter data and inspection of the mixing zone study location we returned to the
MCC offices where we concluded the site inspection. I stated to MCC personnel that I found no visual evidence
of environmental impact or any remnants of the dye during my inspection and that I would review the information
with Senior Staff and provide MCC a written inspection report.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED
None
OTHER (SPECIFY)
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 6
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2
Page 4 of 7
