A record will be maintained of azeas where herbicides are sprayed, the types and mixture of •
herbicides used, and the date of treatment. This information will be reported in the Annual
Reclamation Report.
Historically, pest control has not been necessary at the Seneca II Mine. Based on this
operating experience, pest control is not anticipated at this time for the Seneca II-W Mine or
the II-W South Extension azea. Ongoing reclamation monitoring will identify infestations by
pests. A pest control plan will be developed similar to the weed control plan discussed above.
The specific plan will be developed in consultation with CMLRD and presented as a revision
submittal, when necessary.
Reerading or Stabilizing Rills and Gullies
After an area has been backfilled, graded, topsoiled, and seeded Peabody will monitor the area
Following spring snowmelt and heavy rains. If observation of the azeas indicates that excessive
rills and gullies ate present or may potentially occur, a closer observation will attempt to
determine the cause of the gullying. These areas will be identified on a map.
The natural geomorphic processes of the reclaimed area will be given a great deal of
consideration, taking into account the slope, aspect, and soil conditions of the site. Further
consideration will be given to the normal climatic conditions and rate of vegetation
establishment and development in the subject area. Evaluation will include whether the tills
and gullies will prohibit successful revegetation or will disrupt the achievement of the
postmining land use.
After observation, Peabody Coal Company will have a few options to correct the situation.
These options will be a direct result of studying the situation and selecting the option that, in
the opinion of Peabody, will rectify the erosional problem.
One of, or a combination of, the following options and corrective methods will be employed.
Improved Channel. If it is determined that topography of the regraded area is such that
drainage is concentrated into a particular area, then this area will be improved to accept the
runoff. The drainage bottom or channel will be reshaped, if needed. This will be done with •
either a motor grader or dozer, making the channel in the shape of a V that is approximately 16
Eeet to 20 feet wide. The channel bottom will either be seeded, covered with erosion matting
PR-05
38
