Actual Vegetation Present
The proposed clay pit site was visited in mid November of 1996 by Tony Puga
of the Natural Resources Conservation Service for the purposes of determining the
actual vegetation present. Attached is a copy of the vegetation inventory for the site
listed on form CO- ECS -2. The site was determined to be in fair condition from an
ecological standpoint. The plant community was determined to be approximately 76
percent grasses, 14 percent forbs and 10 percent shrubs. The mean basal vegetation
density is estimated to be 20 to 25 percent. The current production is about 800
pounds per acre air dry forage annually, with a potential varying from 700 to 1,100
pounds depending on range site in excellent condition.
