sediment pond will be built into a topsoil island, and the surface runoff entering it should
encourage vegetation.
Approximately 200 acres was estimated from the USGS quad of the drainage area to the
sediment ponds. The 100 year 24 hour precipitation event in this area is 2.6 inches. Using a
conservative curve number of 88, the resulting runoff is approximately 16 acre feet. The
combinations of islands, pit floors and the sediment ponds will capture this flow on site. Exhibit
G shows this calculation in detail.
7. Weed Control
Weeds are significant in the pre -mine site. Measures will be employed for control of any noxious
weed species. A Weed Control Plan will be utilized as follows:
1) Each April, a weed survey will be made of the permit area.
2) If any patches or plants have been identified, they will be sprayed by backpack sprayer or
4- wheeler using chemicals approved for use by the weed control staff of Mesa County.
3) After reclamation, weed surveys and spraying will continue until the perennial cover and
production of the site have met DRMS requirements and bond release has been obtained.
The Division and Mesa County weed control staff will be consulted regarding any weed
infestation area and any control measures prior to their initiation.
During all phases of the mining operation, the permit area will be monitored closely every year.
The operator is active to determine if there are any additional weeds invading the area. If
infestations of similar weeds now present are experienced, the current weed control plan will
continue to be used. If any new species of weeds are found, Mesa County Weed Control
Authority and the Division will be consulted in order to formulate the best plan for the new
infestation.
8.
