The financial warranty appears adequate.
PERMIT #: M- 2002 -003
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: DB2
INSPECTION DATE: 23 September 2011
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine 5 -year monitoring inspection conducted by David Bird of DRMS. Joseph Dorris was present
representing the operator.
The site is located in Park County approximately 9 miles north - northwest of Lake George and is accessed by
driving a little over two miles up County Road 211 off of County Road 77. Gemstone, specifically topaz, is the
commodity of interest at this mine. The total permit area is listed in the DRMS database as 4.5 acres, and the
post- mining land use is rangeland. The Division holds financial warranty in the amount of $8,447 for the
operation.
Mr. Dorris was working the mine at the time of the inspection, although no equipment was on site other than
hand tools.
No problems were observed.
The operator was reminded to be cognizant of runoff. The 2002 Hayman fire encroached from the north into
the headwaters area upstream of the mine, and the resultant loss of vegetation has resulted in greater
probability of sediment transport from storms. Mr. Dorris is aware of this and takes precautions such as
construction of berms and ditches where needed.
