This was a pre- operation inspection of the Corkle Construction Pit #2 conducted by Peter Hays and Tom
Kaldenbach with the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division). Mr. Harry Corkle was
present during the inspection.
The 110c Reclamation Only application package was received by the Division on June 13, 2011 and deemed
complete for purposes of filing on September 20, 2011. The public comment period for the application ended
on October 2, 2011. No objections were received by the Division. The current decision date for the
application is November 20, 2011.
The Corkle Construction Pit #2 is located approximately 7 miles northwest of Gould, Colorado in Jackson
County and adjacent to the Corkle Pit (M- 1995 -023). The site is being permitted as a reclamation only site to
comply with a Mined Land Reclamation Board Order (MV- 2010 -028). The required notice sign was posted at
the entrance off of State Highway 14. The northwest and northeast permit boundary corners were not
delineated as required by Rule 3.1.12. The applicant was reminded of this requirement and agreed to mark
the corners. The current or a new mine sign will need to be installed by the applicant to identify the
reclamation only permit.
Rule 3.1.12 states, at the entrance of the mine site the Operator shall post a sign, which shall be clearly visible
from the access road, with the following:
(a) The name of the Operator
(b) A statement that a reclamation permit for the operation has been issued by the Colorado Mined
Land Reclamation Board
(c) The permit number
The Corkle Construction Pit #2 will be 3.84 total acres in size. All structures noted on the Pre - Mining Plan Map
appear to have been identified. Reclamation activities have begun at the site. Overburden material was being
moved from the southwest corner of the Corkle Pit, which will be used to regrade the reclamation only site.
After the product stockpile is moved from the northeast corner of the site, reclamation will continue with
topsoiling, fertilization and seeding. Reclamation activities are expected to be completed in a few years.
No problems were noted during the inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
Mr. Harry Corkle
Harry Corkle Construction
34612 Hwy. 14
P.
