• The "P" samples were taken from the top of the coal pad area. Each
sample was segregated into two one foot increments and then the
remainder of the horizon. The two one foot increments were
analyzed to determine if the material has been degraded by water
leaching down through the coal and into the soil. The results of
the laboratory analysis indicate the colluvial material immediately
below the coal pad has not been significantly degraded and all of
the soil samples are suitable plant growth media.
The quantity of suitable plant growth media was calculated based on
the depth of the test holes. The quantity information is presented
on the Present and Post Disturbance Cross Section Map, Map 13. A
total of 15,206 cubic yards of plant growth media was identified.
It is likely the entire bench is comprised of plant growth media.
The 15,206 cubic yards of plant growth media will provide an
average of 16.6 inches of subsoil for a total soil depth of 22
inches (16.6'_ + 5.4").
Prior to conducting reclamation operations, the location and extent
of the plant growth media will be verified. This action is
necessary to assure the plant growth media is placed on top of the
regraded area so it is located immediately below the topsoil layer.
•
• 2.05 - 8c
New 05-26-94
