Mr. Blair, P.E.
February 11, 2004
Page 5
of the station and out the doors, eventually into the stream channel. When the
outlet is put back into service, it will be necessary to modify the pump station
piping so that releases can be made more directly to the stream channel below the
dam.
Reservoir Operation
The operating plan for Robinson Reservoir in the near future involves the use of the
reservoir for containment of process water at the site. With the Climax Mine in
stand -by mode, the reservoir is not currently required to supply process water to the
mill. Runoff into the reservoir is currently pumped to the Tenmile Creek basin using
a barge mounted pumping system in the reservoir and Warren Pump Station. In the
Tenmile Creek basin, the process water is treated and released. The barge pumping
system has a capacity of about 2,500 gpm, and the capacity of Warren Pump
Station is about 6,000 gpm. Release of contaminated process water from the
reservoir to Eagle Park Reservoir is not permitted.
The water level in the reservoir has been maintained at a low elevation for the past
several years. The water level increases somewhat each year during the snowmelt
season, and is then slowly drawn down using the pumping systems. The near term
plan for the operation of the reservoir is to continue maintaining a low level in the
reservoir, until the reservoir is reclaimed and converted to a fresh water reservoir.
The current plan is for this reclamation to occur within the next ten years. Process
water seepage from the reservoir is collected near the toe of the dam and pumped
back into the reservoir. Release of this water to Eagle Park Reservoir would cause
environmental impacts.
Blind Flange Installation
Release of process water or sediment from Robinson Reservoir would cause
environmental impacts to the downstream Eagle Park Reservoir and the Eagle River.
