Pe
Dear Mr. Sorenson:
In 1994, Climax completed major demolition and reclamation activities in the Storke yard area.
The Division inspected the area in August of that year. The September 17, 1994 inspection
report requested that Climax establish a seep development monitoring program below 5 -Shaft.
Climax complied with this request, established a baseline survey, and has conducted annual seep
monitoring for eight years since 1995. Monitoring reports have been submitted with the annual
report to the Division.
The results from the past eight years show that nothing of significance has changed over the
baseline survey with regards to the seep areas. Therefore, Climax requests that this program be
terminated. Climax will continue to measure water levels in the 5 -Shaft monitoring well and
report those results to the Division in the annual report.
Thank you for your consideration of this request. Please contact me at (719) 486 -2150, ext. 723
if you have any, questions.
Sincerely,
Bryce Romig
Environmental Manager, Climax Mine
A Subsidiary of Phelps Dodge Mining Company
RECEIVED
APR 0 7 2003
Climax Mine
Hwy. 91
Climax, Colorado 80429
(719) 486 -2150
Fax (719) 486 -2251
