P
Dear Mr. Sorenson:
Sincerely,
CLIMAX MOLYBDENUM COMPANY
Bryce Romig,
Environmental Manager
Climax Molybdenum Company, Climax Mine
A Subsidiary of Phelps Dodge Mining Company
Mr. Allen Sorenson, Environmental Protection Specialist
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street; Rm. 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
RECEIVED
10V 2 4 2003
Division u9 MOP:rti:.,
Climax Mine
Hwy. 91
Climax, Colorado 80429
(719) 486 -2150
,Fax (719) 486 -2251
The Climax mine has used Coherex for dust control since the 1980s. The Environmental
Protection Plan (draft 1995, pages 28 -29) discusses Coherex and its storage in a bermed tank on-
site as an Environmental Protection Facility (EPF). As you are aware, the Climax mine has
ceased using Coherex for dust control. Instead, Climax now uses a thin hydro - application of
cement. Aside from being more effective, this method requires no on -site tank or chemical
storage facility.
The Coherex tank and storage facility was dismantled and removed from the property in
September 2003. The attached photos 1 -3 show three views of the small site following removal.
This site will be revegetated in 2004.
With this submittal, Climax is requesting that Coherex use and the Coherex storage facility be
formally removed from the list of EPFs for the Climax mine site.
If you have any questions, please contact me at 719 - 486 -2150, ext. 723.
cc: R.
