•
•
• Reclamation of the Crystal Hill Mine in Saguache County, Colorado involved the
structural demolition of the maintenance shop, the Merrill Crowe processing plant,
the security trailer, a storage yard, and a small lime storage building. Kaess
Contracting of Salida performed the demolition and reclamation work, and EEE has
access to the old invoices and bid sheets for costing information.
• Reclamation and decommissioning of the Horizon Mine in Eddy County, New
Mexico involved the structural demolition of over 50 buildings. The demolition
effort included asbestos removal and offsite disposal; removal of siding and roofing;
shear - cutting and torch - cutting steel structural members; rubblizing pier foundations
and concrete walls; breaking up and onsite disposal of concrete slabs; filling
basements with rubble and debris; covering "mounded" rubble piles with clean fill;
and revegetation. A complete set of invoices for all contractor work resides in the files
at EEE's office in Golden. The demolition was performed during January through
August, 1997, and is therefore very current. The general contractor was Spray
Systems Environmental of Tempe, Arizona and the demolition subcontractor was
Wayne Gomez Demolition and Excavating of Denver.
Additional background information includes the following contacts: (1) Steve Thomas of
Wayne Gomez Demolition and Excavating was contacted with respect to conveyor
demolition costs (phone conversation 11- 11 -97); (2) Kyle Ellis of Alternative Recycling
was contacted regarding cribbing demolition and removal costs (phone conversation 11-
13-97); (3) Jeff Mueller at Cyprus Amax's Ayrshire Mine was contacted regarding
conveyor demolition costs and salvage values (phone conversation 11- 11 -97); (4) Bryce
Romig has spoken with a representative of ASI -RCC (phone conversation with Frank
Kern on 11- 20 -97), the company responsible for demolition of the Storke Dry parking lot,
with regard to costs for ripping up and hauling off a large expanse of asphalt; and (5)
Mike Ellis has talked with Allen Sorenson (phone conversation, 10- 23 -97) regarding the
"Means site location adjustment factor" in DMG's spreadsheets.
