c
August 29, 2002
Mr. Allen Sorenson
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street; Room 215
Denver, Colorad• 80203
Re: Permi f M- 77- 493; -06 Deletion
Dear Mr. Sor- sore
Technical Revision #6 was approved and incorporated into the Climax mine (Climax) Permit to
allow Climax to dispose of non - hazardous water treatment sludge produced at the Mt. Emmons
treatment plant at the Climax facility. During the period that disposal occurred, Climax tested
the viability and feasibility of incorporating the material into the reclamation program as a
surface amendment.
Last year, Climax and Mt. Emmons determined that it was significantly more cost - efficient to
dispose of the sludge at the public solid waste disposal facility near Montrose, Colorado. The
switch was made accordingly. Thus, this material no longer is being transported to Climax, nor
will it be in the future.
Since this element is no longer applicable to Climax or to the Climax Permit, Climax is
requesting that the TR be formally withdrawn from its Permit or terminated administratively.
Thank you for your consideration of this matter. Please contact me at (719) 486 -2150 x723 if
you have any questions.
Sincerely,
CLIIV MOLYBDENUM COMPANY
A Subsidiary of Phelps Dodge Mining Company
Bryce R.
