CERTIFIED
Ms. Carla Lenkey
Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment
WQCD -PE -B2
4300 Cherry Creek Dr. South
Denver, CO 80222 -1530
Subject:`. Third Quarter 2011 Colorado Wastewater Discharge Monitoring Reports
Permit No CO-0032115
Dear Ms. Lenkey:
TRAPPER MININI INC.
October 25, 2011
O CT 3 1201
Division of Reclamation,
Minteg and grtfety
Enclosed are Trapper Mine's Third Quarter 2011 Colorado Wastewater Discharge Monitoring Reports for the period
07/1/11-09/30/11. During this quarter, six NPDES outfalls were active. Outfalls 001, 002, 011, 020 and 022
discharged routinely throughout the quarter. Outfall 024 discharged in early June in response to late snow melt.
Outfalls 005, 008, 009, 012, 013, 014, 015, 016, 017, 018, 019, 021 and 023 did not discharge during the quarter.
Values reported on the enclosed DMRs represent the maximum (or minimum as applicable) monthly /daily values
generated at each outfall during the quarter.
No exceedances of primary effluent limitations occurred during this quarter, however one issue did arise this quarter
concerning Total Iron values for the month of July. An error at the laboratory resulted in Total Iron data not being
calculated for samples taken July 5 2011. When the error was realized, viable sample materials could not be
located at the lab. The materials necessary to calculate the values had already been disposed of. As a result Total
Iron values are not represented on these DMR's for NPDES points 002, 011, 020, 022 and 024. Materials were
found for outfall 001 and Total Iron values are used in these reports for that outfall. For outfall 024, discharge was
only recorded in July and no Total Iron values are reported for this outfall. Each outfall exhibited extremely low
TSS values for the month of July. Traditionally at outfalls on the site, low TSS values result in low Total Iron
values. With the resulting low TSS values, it can be assumed no exceedance of Total Iron occurred at any outfall
during July and the reporting period. For all active outfalls except 024, a higher TSS value was recorded at another
time during the period and a Total Iron value that most likely exceeded July's samples. These max values are
represented on this periods DMR's as usual.
Also enclosed are monthly NOAA weather summaries for the reporting period and WET test report forms as
applicable. Two outfalls were sampled for WET analyses during the quarter. Two species acute tests were
completed at outfalls 011 and 020. No exceedances of WET test limitations were observed at the tested outfalls.
Trapper is required to maintain sediment levels in ponds at or below 60% of the pond volume. All outfalls have
been properly maintained and did not exceed the 60% threshold for sediment accumulation. All structures operated
properly and were not compromised in any way. All other operations were properly conducted concerning the
sediment control structures at Trapper Mine.
Please contact me if you have any questions regarding the enclosed information, 970 - 826 -6143
GCR [ WATER /DMR/Quarterly Letter /3rd Quarter 2010]
Enclosure
c Rob Zuber, CDRMS
File 109.2.7
P.O.
