OBSERVATIONS
PERMIT #: M -1979 -002
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: THM
INSPECTION DATE: October 20, 2011
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring program established by the Colorado Division
of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division). The North Delta Pit is located 1.5 miles North of Delta,
Colorado off of H38 Road. The site is a 112c operation that is currently in Temporary Cessation status with the
option to start mining in the future. Paul Suppes with the City of Delta accompanied the inspector during the
inspection.
The purpose of the inspection was to assess the site conditions prior to approving the request for succession of
operator.
No evidence of recent mining activity was observed during the inspection. A scale house was observed at the
main entrance to the operation. Various stockpiles were observed throughout the permit area.
The slopes around the pond appeared to be steeper than the required 3H:1 V. The slopes lacked adequate
topsoil, the reclamation plan calls for a minimum of six inches of topsoil. A variety of noxious weeds were
observed during the inspection including: Russian olive, Russian thistle and tamarisk. The weed management
plan was revised in 2005 therefore this is not seen as a problem at this time. The weeds observed have been
photographed and this inspection report will be used as a tool to monitor the success of the weed management
plan during future inspections.
The drums that were observed in the previous inspection have been removed along with the vandalized camper
trailer that was located within the permit area. Two trash pits were observed within the permit area and the
operator stated that the plan is to excavate the trash from the pits and haul to an approved disposal facility.
If you need more information regarding this inspection report please contact Travis Marshall in the DRMS
Grand Junction Field Office at (970) 241 -2042.
