Caller is going out to investigate. She
said there is some suspicion prior to the visit, that this may be related to some type of mining activity. // 10/5/11 Boulder
County Sheriff &news reports provided more information. The Alicia Mine, a gold mine, at 1500 James Canyon Drive,
had previously had a stagnant pool of this water inside the mine. Somehow the pool was released into the creek, for a
one -time release. Boulder County officials were notified in time to close an intake that would have channeled the mine
effluent into one of the reservoirs that provides part of the district's water supply. Water samples at the time were
negative for arsenic, cyanide, mercury and iron. It is though at this time that the orange coloring is due to iron oxide.
The orange liquid had no odor, and reportedly had the consistency or thin pancake batter.
MEDIUM IMPACTED: WATER • Fixed Facility ❑ Land ❑ Air • Groundwater
MI Surface Water Waterway Impacted:
JAMES CREEK - - >LT HAND CREEK - - >ST.
