t
1
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The proposed surface and ground water monitoring plan (Monitoring Plan) for the Experimental
Nahcolite Project Pilot Plant (Project) was prepared to be used for discussion with the regulatory
agencies, and for the completion of the Environmental Assessment for the Project. The Project
is located southwest of Meeker, Colorado, in the Rock School Lease Tract.
The Monitoring Plan will be implemented in the Fall of 1999 to assure that adequate baseline
data are available for the Project permitting process. The Monitoring Plan was prepared for the
experimental phase of the Project (year one). The Monitoring Plan will be reviewed and revised,
if necessary, for subsequent phases of the Project.
The scope of the Monitoring Plan is to obtain baseline surface and ground water data prior to
plant operations, and for monitoring of the effects on surface and ground water resources in the
general area.
2.0 SURFACE WATER MONITORING
Surface water monitoring will include streams, springs, and seeps. Monitoring will include flow
measurements, field water quality measurements (pH, temperature, and electrical conductivity),
and laboratory water quality sample collection and analysis. Locations of the proposed surface
water monitoring stations are presented on Figure 1. The Monitoring Plan is summarized in
Table 1, and a list of recommended laboratory parameters is presented in Tables 2 and 3.
2.1 Stream Monitoring
SURFACE AND GROUND WATER
MONITORING PLAN
AmerAlia, Inc.
Experimental Pilot Plant
Nahcolite Project
Stream stations will be established on Yellow Creek and its tributaries Corral Gulch and Stake
Springs Draw.
Following is a brief description of the proposed stream monitoring sites:
SW — 1:
This station is located on the Corral Gulch drainage at or near the location of inactive US
Geological Survey (USGS) Monitoring Station No. 09306244. This station will monitor Corral
Gulch upstream of the proposed Project facilities, and upstream of the irrigation ditch gate.
SW -2:
This station is located on the Stake Springs Draw drainage above the confluence with Yellow
Creek and above the irrigation ditch gate, at or near the inactive USGS gauging Station No.
\ \Gamel\home new \VladimirtAmerAlia\AmerAlia Report R3.doc - 20- Aug -99
