ACTION BY: DISCUSSION
Project team members were introduced and then the following project
information was provided:
1. AmerAlia plans on constructing and operating a nahcolite solution mining
and sodium biocarbonate production facility at its site near Meeker,
Colorado. The attached map was used to show the project location.
2. The project site is located on the Rock School Lease in the Piceance Creek
Basin.
3. Production will be in three phases over the following approximate time
frames:
• 50,000 tpy for about the first 2 years during the pilot phase;
• 75,000 tpy for approximately years 2 to 4; and
• 150,000 tpy starting approximately in year 5.
4. There will be approximately 20 to 25 permanent employees.
5. Construction is scheduled to start July to August 1999; operations will start
in May to June 2000.
6. Hot water will be used for the solution mining. Water rights were applied
for the end of December 1998. Alluvial wells will be used to obtain the
water which will be stored in a pond. Although one of the three filings for
water rights was for a deep well.
7. A Preliminary Plot Plan (SK -CI -110, 1/13/99) was used to show the location
of the water storage pond and other project facilities including:
