drill rig positioned over the surface casing will then be utilized to drill a 12 1/4 inch diameter
hole to a depth of approximately 2,000 feet and circulated clean. Occasionally drill core may
be cut in the saline zone to confirm geologic predictions as well as for grade control.
The drilling operations will have blow out preventers to prevent the accidental release of
methane during drilling.
Deviation surveys will be periodically conducted during drilling to ensure that the hole does
not exceed 1 to 2-degree drift from the vertical. High strength carbon alloy steel 9 5/8 inch
intermediate casing will be placed to the total depth (near the top of the mining horizon) in
each hole, with approximately 12 centralizers and a drillable float shoe at the bottom. A best
management practice attempt will be made to cement the annular space of the 9 5/8-inch
casing from the top of the mining interval to surface. High sulfate resistant and heat
resistant cement will be used to cement the casing from the top of the mining horizon to at
least the bottom of the B-Groove. If the cement does not reach the surface, the remaining
annular space will be filled with a gel-type mud (9 pounds per gallon or greater weight).
Figure 4-3 shows a typical completed production well. The locations of the wells are shown
on Figure 1-2. When wells are completed a temperature log, cement bond log or cement
evaluation log will be run to determine the cement height and quality of the cemented
casing.
Tanks will be used to store water at the drill pads for use during drilling operations. All drill
cuttings will be placed in mud pits located near each well. Mud pits will be used for one to
two wells and will be reclaimed after drilling.
In order to protect critical winter range for mule deer, exploration, drilling and other
development activity will be closely coordinated with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.
Following the completion of a production well, the well will be properly tested for mechanical
integrity, a production tubing(s) will be installed in the well. There may be up to three
production tubings installed with intermediate annular gas spaces for insulation and cap gas
injection. The well head and pack off assembly will be placed on top of each well with
injection/extraction lines connected to the well head assembly.
G:%LM1M78W.00ZMinePlanWINEPLAN.DOC 4-6
