Culverts that are no longer needed for
drainage will be removed. Retired roads will be re- graded, roughened by ripping, topdressed with
topsoil, and planted as described below.
E -5.2 RECLAMATION OF WELL FIELD
As shown on Figures C -1 and C -8, the pilot plant solution well field will be composed of well pads,
roads, and a pipe network for solution transport. Up to six well pads - each about 1 acre in area,
approximately 1 acre of road, and approximately 2 acres of pipeline corridor will be required to
operate the well field at its full six well potential. Initially, only two wells will be developed. Based
upon information obtained from those two wells, additional wells may be developed. This Plan
assumes that all six wells will be developed and that a total of about 9 acres will be disturbed in the
solution well field.
After all available nacholite has been mined from a given well (requiring one to three years of
solution mining) that well will be plugged and abandoned in accordance with BLM and U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency requirements. After well abandonment, all surface piping and
other facilities associated with that well will be removed. The well pad area and surface disturbance
associated with pipelines and roads for that well will be re- graded to near original contour,
roughened by ripping or plowing, topsoiled, and planted as described below.
When possible, topsoil salvaged from new areas to be disturbed will be applied directly to re-
contoured areas, reducing Tong -term topsoil stockpiling to the greatest extent possible.
The subsoil on the surface of re- contoured areas will be left in a roughened condition by using
plowing, ripping, land imprinting, or contour furrowing operations. Roughening will provide erosion
and sedimentation controls, microhabitats that favor vegetation establishment, and a better
interface for placing of topsoil over the subsoil.
G:LLMW 78545.002U2ec amaUonlRedamexh.DOC
E -7
