1.2 Description of Construction Activities
Construction activities will include the construction of the main access road, plant
facilities, well field pipeline and access road, well pads, well field drainage pond (or
tank), and monitoring wells with access roads. A staging area with a temporary concrete
batch plant will also be included in the construction activities. See Revised Figure C -1.
1.3 Soil Disturbing Activities
Following is a tentative list of soil disturbing activities:
Installation of erosion and sedimentation control measures,
Clearing, grubbing, and grading for the above mentioned facilities,
Construction of the above mentioned facilities,
Installation of final erosion and sedimentation control structures.
1.4 Intended Sequence of Major Construction Activities
1.5 Project Area
2
The final order of construction activities is somewhat uncertain due to variables that are
often encountered during construction. The following description of construction
sequence can be found also in Section E -2 of the Reclamation Plan in the Division of
Minerals and Geology (DMG) 112 Permit Application enclosed with this SWMP as
Attachment 1.
Specific activities will be preferentially performed during initial land disturbance. Where
needed on slopes and/or on erosive soils, perimeter erosion and sediment controls will be
constructed before other surface disturbance activities. Next, roads will be constructed
with appropriate erosion and sediment controls incorporated during construction.
Simultaneously with road construction and as needed for construction of erosion control
and sediment control structures, soil will be salvaged. After these measures have been
implemented, the components associated with the well field and processing facilities will
be constructed.
Placement of erosion and sediment control structures will parallel the development of the
well field and process facilities. Topsoil stockpiles and accessible cut and fill slopes of
ponds, roadways, and other facilities will be seeded at the first available planting time
(i.e., fall or spring) after construction. These components will be re- vegetated to enhance
viability of stockpiled topsoil and to minimize potential erosion problems with both
stockpiles and facility cut and fill slopes. The seed mix shown in Table E -1 in
Attachment 1 will be used.
Table 1 presents a breakdown of the estimated areal extent of disturbed areas within the
Project Area by various descriptors.
