Skies were clear, and temperatures were mild. Road and surface <br />conditions were dry throughout the area. Mining Area No. 1 was inspected on -foot. Other <br />permit areas were accessed by vehicle. <br />PERMITTING UPDATE: <br />• RN -04 An application for Permit Renewal No. 4 was received on June 30, 2011, and was <br />detennined to be Complete, for purposes of filing, on July 8. Proof of Publication (which <br />occurred on August 4, 11, 18, and 25) was submitted on September 9, 2011. No public <br />comments have been received, and the Division has received no comments from agencies <br />which were notified of the renewal application. The Decision date for RN -04 is February 10, <br />2012. <br />AVAILABILITY OF RECORDS — Rule 5.02.4(1): <br />• Following the field inspection, I visited the Montrose County Courthouse - Nucla Annex, <br />which is the designated location for mine permit records available for public review. A copy <br />of the Permit Application Package was on the shelf with documents from other mines in the <br />area. <br />FISH and WILDLIFE — Rule 4.18: <br />• No deer or elk were observed during the inspection; a number of birds, including Stellar's <br />jays, were sighted. <br />• Near the center of the western boundary of Mining Area No. 1, I observed what appeared to <br />be a cluster of rodent burrows, of unknown origin (Photo 1). <br />• Ant hills were scattered throughout Mining Area No. 1 (Photo 2). <br />Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 2 <br />Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1 Page 2 of 6 <br />
