d. repeat, as necessary; if there is a second aquifer to be protected another
packer and cement plug will be set from 50 feet below the bottom, to 50 feet
above the top, of the next higher aquifer.
3. Diesel -based mud and Reclamation: We are asking our contractors that are bidding
on the drill holes to prepare to provide a complete closed system for the diesel- (or
other oil- based) mud system. When the coring is completed in each hole, they are
preparing to flush the drill hole with surfactants to recover as much as possible of the
oil -based mud from the hole. Further, they are preparing to pressure wash all of the
oil -based mud from any of the drill- string, casing, pumps and equipment that was
used in the oil -based mud coring process. We are prepared to provide details of the
recovery and clean -up practices in the drill hole permanent abandonment reports.
4. Reclamation cost: This is the portion of our response to CDRMS's second letter that
will take some more time to complete. RM Potash has requested bids from two
drilling companies that have combination drill rigs (rotary and efficient coring). We
have also have two mud companies preparing estimates of the cost of preparing,
delivering, storing, clean-up, and disposal of oil -based mud for our drill holes. I will
forward that information to CDRMS, and to the BLM, as soon as we receive it.
Sincerely,
J. n P. Thorson
Manager, Colorado Potash Project
cc. James Blair — BLM
cc. Rob Rutherford, RM Potash, Sydney
2
