September 28, 2011 X- 2007 - 228 -00 /Ark Land Grand Valley Book Cliffs KAG
excellent condition. Cattle were grazing this area but appeared to have little impact on the vegetation
The inspection continued on a reconditioned existing road up Lapham Canyon. Site BSW0704 was found along a
moderately steep slope in an area of heavy brush and trees. Grass cover was good and there was no sign of erosion
or damage of any kind. The edges of the reclaimed pad were blended well into the surrounding area.
The inspection continued along Lapham Canyon road at site BSW0705 along a ridge overlooking Munger Creek to
the west. Again, the site was found well vegetated and in excellent condition.
We observed the beginning of the reclaimed road to site BSW0706. The operator used large rocks to block vehicle
access to this reclaimed area. Also noted were large "pocked" areas constructed in the earth, about 4 feet x 2 feet in
size, to further discourage off road vehicles from using these corridors.
The existing road ends at site BSW0707 in a fonner burn area. This site is well vegetated with a diverse mix of
grasses, forbs, and shrubs. Observed species included Indian ricegrass, Blue flax, western wheatgrass, numerous
small forbs, and curly cup gumweed.
We then inspected a mile long section of reclaimed road from near site BSW0707 to site BSW0709. This section
of road in many areas is nearly impossible to discern from the surrounding area. Native vegetation has done very
well. The operator took a great deal of care to carefully blend the reclaimed area into the surrounding terrain and
scattered rocks and tree slash naturally over the reclaimed area, mimicking the adjacent undisturbed area.
Based on the reclamation work performed, nothing observed during the inspection would preclude the release of all
bond for this project. The operator is commended for achieving successful reclamation in the most difficult of
circumstances.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 0
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 0
Page 3 of 10
