PUBLIC NOTICE <br />New Elk Coal Company, LLC, 122 West First St., Trinidad, CO 81082 the operator of the New Elk <br />Mine, Permit number C- 1981 -012, is filing for a technical revision (TR -60) to the mining permit . <br />with the State of Colorado, Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety. For filing purposes, this <br />application was deemed complete by the Division on MONTH DAY, YEAR. <br />The New Elk Mine is located approximately 7 miles west of Weston Colorado on State Hwy. 12. <br />The Jansen Yard is located immediately south of the town of Jansen. The mine permit <br />boundary is located within sections 13, 14, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 34, 35 and 36, T335, <br />R68W and sections 1 and 2, T34S, R68W. The Jansen Yard is located within sections 22 and 23, <br />T33S, R64W. The combined permit boundary contains 4198.9 acres more or less. These <br />sections can be located on the USGS 7.5 minute Vigil, Stonewall, Tercio and Trinidad quadrangle <br />maps. Portions of the proposed underground mine and surface support of the underground <br />mine lie within the boundary of the Bosque del Oso State Wildlife Area. A total of 209.1 acres <br />of surface disturbance from mining related activity is covered by a reclamation bond in the <br />amount of $3,824,698. <br />This technical revision will provide for the expansion of the development waste disposal area. <br />A topsoil stockpile located immediately west of the disposal area will be relocated. The <br />disposal area will be expanded to the west increasing the capacity of the disposal area about <br />20,000 bank cubic yards. <br />A copy of the proposed revision is available for public inspection at the Las Animas County <br />courthouse, Office of the County Recorder, and at the offices of the Division of Reclamation, <br />Mining and Safety, 1313 Sherman St., Room 215, Denver, CO, 80203, (303) 866 -3567. Written <br />comments regarding this application may be submitted to and additional information may be <br />obtained from the Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety at the above address.
