barge to the west corner of East Branch Reservoir. The pump barge will consist of three
vertical turbine pumps enclosed in a heated enclosure. Power will be supplied to the barge
through a proposed transmission line that would extend from East Branch Pump Station to
the barge. The entire system has been designed for year -round operation. The design
pumping capacity of the barge system is 12,700 gpm (28.3 cfs) with all three pumps running.
The design of the new barge system includes a lateral at the upper end of the
pipeline that will allow the barge to be used in emergency situations to deliver water from the
tailing pond directly into the existing fresh water bypass system at the bifurcation structure.
This water could then be conveyed to the Williams Fork River. To use this lateral, it will be
necessary to remove a blind flange on the lateral and install a pipe spool piece. A blind
flange must then be attached to the normal discharge end of the barge discharge pipeline.
This positive separation design was intended to eliminate the possibility of unintended
discharge of process water into the fresh water system. The capacity of this system will also
be 12,700 gpm (28.3 cfs). The design capacity of the fresh water bypass system from the
bifurcation structure to the Williams Fork River is 82 cfs.
5
