(Page 2)
MINE ID#OR PROSPECTING ID#: M-77-479
INSPECTION DATE: 8/24101 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: AlW
OBSERVATIONS
This was a preliminary conversion pre-operational inspection conducted by Tony Waldron and Al Amundson of DMG along
with Jackie Carson of Baca County. The site is located approximately 3 miles northwest of Walsh,Colorado along Bear Creek.
The active pit is situated along the north side of the creek near the west property boundary on land owned by Baca County.
This area has been the site of extensive sand and gravel mining for many years and a good deal of the disturbance located in
this area is pre-law.
During the last inspection of this site discussions were held about the possibility of converting this site from a 110c to a112c
in order to incorporate the entire parcel of land where the mine sits. This was desirable since the County owns the entire
parcel and there are some mineable reserves available. As a result, the county has decided to convert the site into a 112c.
The parcel is 80 acres in size and is bisected by Bear Creek in an east-west direction. All of the mining to date has occurred
on the north side of Bear Creek and much of this was mined pre-law. The operator has not disturbed the actual creek channel
to date, and apparently has no intentions of doing so under the expanded permit proposal. The inspectors did not observe any
exposed groundwater at this location and the operator indicated that they do not plan on mining to a depth that would expose
any in the future. No structures were observed on or near the site that would be impacted by the expansion. The vegetation
on the site is typical of what one would see on an abandoned crop field, namely, annual and perennial weeds with some
grasses interspersed throughout. Soils appear to be rather sandy. No problems were noted that would preclude converting
this site from a 110c to a 112c operation.
cc: Jim Stevens-DMG
Al Amundson-DMG
❑ CE
I & E Contact Address ❑ BL
❑ ES
NAME: Ray Miller ❑ HW
❑ HMWMD (CH)
OPERATOR: Baca County ❑ SE
❑ WQCD (CH)
STREET: P.O.
