Inspection Contact Address
Howard McGinnis - Yuma County
Yuma County Road & Bridge
1310 South Blake Street
Wray, CO 80758
CC:
Randy Schafer
40586 Co Rd 21
Haxtun CO 80731
OBSERVATIONS
PERMIT #: M- 2011 -042
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE: September 30, 2011
This was a pre- operational inspection for the Knodel Pit, a proposed Yuma County 112c sand and gravel
operation, conducted by Eric Scott of DRMS. DRMS accompanied Yuma County Road and Bridge
representative Howard McGinnis, and observed the site with him at approximately 1130.
The proposed site entrance is located on the north side of Yuma county road 7 approximately 1.25 miles west of
the Colorado/Kansas border. Yuma County is permitting 128 acres at this location. The notification of
proposed mining site sign was observed at the existing site entrance location, and the extent of the site was
defined by T -posts that have been placed at the permit corners and along boundaries.
The site is relatively level to rolling hilly ground and is currently utilized as rangeland. Cattle grazing may to
continue on areas of the site that are not being actively mined. No other features or man-made structures of
note were observed in the permit area during this inspection. The only man -made features noted within 200' of
the proposed permit boundary are a cattle tank and a 3 -wire fence. The windmill mentioned in the permit
application that was previously near the cattle tank has been removed. Yuma County proposes to leave a buffer
zone around the existing grassed and stable drainage channels to prevent erosion, and DRMS concurs that this is
an excellent idea. The permit for this site will be issued when the public comment period expires, provided
there are no objections.
