MINE ENGINEERING
MINE RECLAMATION
September 29, 2011
J. J. Dudash
Division of Reclamation, Mining & Safety
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Bowie Resources, LLC, Bowie No. 2 Mine
Pond J and Irrigation Run -off
Permit C- 1996 -083
Dear Mr. Dudash:
The DRMS has expressed concerns about irrigation run -off that is collected in Pond J
since the run -off calculation for Pond J did not consider irrigation return flows. The
volume of irrigation return flow is relatively minor. Pond J has excess capacity in the
form of sediment capacity. The required sediment capacity is 0.16 AF. The as -built
sediment capacity is 0.91 AF. The irrigation run -off could be allowed to flow into pond J
until the pool of water reaches the as -built sediment elevation of 5850 (Ref Map No. 22-
J). At that point additional irrigation water accumulation would reduce the pond's
design water capacity.
Bowie proposes to install survey stakes around the inside of the pond at the maximum
sediment elevation (5850). Bowie will monitor the pond during the irrigation season to
assure the level of the irrigation water does not exceed the maximum sediment level.
Should the water level be exceeded, Bowie will discharge the excess water.
Sincerely,
J.
