Jill Carlson of
the Colorado Geological Survey(CGS)participated in the inspection. CGS has assisted CDRMS in the
investigation and remediation of the landslides that have occurred on site this year.
Weather conditions at the site were sunny and warm;the area has been in a fairly dry pattern the last few weeks.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE -Rule 4.05 Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5,
4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.05.7, 4.05.10;Diversions 4.05.4; Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water
Monitoring 4.05.13; Surface Water Monitoring 4.05.13;Drainage—Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8;
Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18:
Ponds 005, 006,and 016 and Stocktanks T18 and T5 all held water. Spoils springs were flowing above
Pond 006 (at the base of the north A/B pits) and above Pond 016A/base of shrub plot. The french drains installed
across the Mine Entrance Haul Road (MEHR) and in the MEHR slide area were both discharging.
REVEGETATION Rule 4.15 Vegetative Cover; Timing:
Cattle were grazing the north area reclamation between Stocktanks T18 and T5.
SLIDES and DAMAGE-Rule 4.12:
The pit ramp/shrub plot slide was inspected. The operator completed regrading of the scarp of the slide,
but had not yet installed drains. Two drains will need to be constructed; one at the east end of the slide, along the
existing gullies and the other on the western end where there is a low area/seep. Both of these drains should be
constructed from the toe of the slide to the existing road ditch. The regraded scarp needs to be reseeded this fall.
Work on the approved remediation plan for the Pond 016/016A slide area was underway. All of the sediment had
been removed from Pond 016A and placed on the slope northeast of the pond. Excavation of the PM-2 channel
and underdrain was also in progress. Material from the toe of the slide area, between the shrub plot and Road J/K,
was being excavated and placed in Pond 016A to eliminate the pond. Material placed in the pond appeared to be
within the maximum 12"lift thickness. A sheepsfoot compactor was compacting the material as it was placed.
Slope reduction and grading on the slope to the north had not been started. Rock was being hauled on site for
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 6
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 2 of 5
