July 21, 2010
Via Email and UPS Tracking #: 1Z 804 847 03 6692 9240
Mr. Allen C. Sorenson
Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman St., Rm. 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Permit M- 1977 -342, TR -11, Alternative Method to Salvage and Stockpile Topsoil
Dear Mr. Sorenson:
Climax Molybdenum
A Freeport - McMoRan Company
Climax Molybdenum Company (CMC) is pleased to provide the following information related to Technical
Revision 11 (TR -11) of the Henderson Reclamation Permit. CMC is in the process of reviewing its DRMS
permit files to make sure that all associated commitments have been met and that the related files,
correspondence and authorizations are complete. As is practicable, our goal is to obtain written
confirmation that obligations associated with each of our technical revision and permit amendment files
have been satisfied. We believe this will prove useful to both CMC and DRMS, and we appreciate your
assistance with this effort.
TR -11 provides an alternative method for salvaging and stockpiling top soil. Prior to TR -11, topsoil had
been salvaged utilizing a conventional shovel and truck hauling method. The alternative method entails
dozing and windrowing top soil around the tailing impoundment. This method has allowed CMC to
salvage the most desirable soil (the top 3 feet) from a greater area.
For your reference, we've also included the following attachments:
COLORADO OPERATIONS
Henderson Mill
P.O. Box 68
Empire, CO 80438
Phone (303) 569 -3221
Fax (303) 569 -2830
RECEMlit
SEP OR ?nil
Division of Reclama0on,
Miming and Safety
• Attachment 1 — February 21, 2001 memo to file documenting a phone conversation in which
DRMS granted CMC permission to utilize the alternative topsoil salvaging and stockpiling
method.
• Attachment 2 — CMC's formal request for DRMS approval of TR -11, dated August 28, 2001. The
document provides detail about the alternative method for managing topsoil.
As a part of our continuing effort to complete CMC's technical revision and permit amendment files, CMC
requests that DRMS provide written approval for TR -11.
