Please find enclosed one set of
drawings detailing the proposed relocation.
Henderson would like to relocate the pipe discharge in order to move the accumulation point of
the metal oxide precipitation (sludge) that is currently taking place at the 3 -Dam seepwater line
discharge. The lines currently discharge just upstream of the the Park Station seepwater inlet.
The low pH, high metal content 3 -Dam seepwater, when discharged into the more neutral pH
water of the 1 -Dam seepwater canal, precipitates metal oxides. At this location it is difficult to
clean the sludge out of the inlet works and causes premature scaling and build up in our pumps
and pipelines. By relocating the discharge to the head end of the 1 -Dam seepwater canal, we will
increase the detention time of the 3 - Dam seepwater in the canal allowing precipitation to take
place away from our pump station and in a location that is easier to clean. The 3 -Dam seepwater
will, of course, still be reporting to the same location for recycling into the mill water circuit.
Henderson would like to begin construction on this project in May 2002.
Please call if you have any questions or are in need of any further information before granting
approval for this change. I can be reached at (303) 569 -3221 ext. 2214.
Very truly yours,
Erich Bower
Sr. Environmental Engineer
Climax Molybdenum Company
Enclosure
Cc: Mike Ley — Climax
Rich Wagner - Climax
HamosnsoN OPERATIONS
18302 County Road 3
Parallel], Colorado 80469
CO3) 3 569.3221
Fax 197W 725.0039
