DIVISION OF RECLAMATION, MINING AND SAFETY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866 -3567
FAX: (303) 832 -8106
September 27, 2011
Mr. Donald MacDonald
Coors Energy Company
P.O. Box 467
Golden, CO 80402
Re: Keenesburg Mine, Permit No. C- 1981 -028
Second Quarter 2011 Pond Inspection Report
Dear Mr. MacDonald:
The Division received Coors Energy Company's Second Quarter 2011 Pond Inspection report on September 20,
2011. The report indicates that CEC conducted inspections on June 23, 2011.
The Division has reviewed this report and did not find any cause for concern related to the ponds. No discharge
from any of the ponds was reported, and no structural issues were identified. Only two potential issues were
identified: the report indicates that vegetation at the sewage lagoon is inadequate and that there are burrow holes
at the Dugout Pond. However, as previously noted, the sewage lagoon poses no threat to public safety or
environmental health. The burrows at the Dugout Pond are acceptable as this is not an engineered embankment.
Thus, these potential maintenance issues are not considered problems.
This report meets the requirements of Rules 4.05.9(14) and 4.05.9(17). Thank you for your submittal.
Sincerely,
Robert Zuber, P.E.
Environmental Protection Specialist
(303) 866 -3567, ext. 8113
STATE OF COLORADO
COLORADO
D I V I S I O N O F
RECLAMATION
MINING
— &—
SAE ETY
John W.
