May Day /Idaho Mine — Comments to Selected Work Plans from the August 2011 Submittal,
Exhibit D
Page 4
August 22, 2011
and any resulting changes or additional details to the augmentation pond design be
submitted as a technical revision.
16. Page 3, Construction. Item 9 states "No topsoil is available on site ". Based on the June
2, 2011 site visit, there appears to be a significant amount of growth media in the area of
the proposed augmentation pond. Please re- evaluate this statement.
17. Page 4, Construction. Item 13 states "The pond will be constructed in accordance with
the design specifications summarized in Attachment D -6 and Figure D -1." There are no
design specifications in either Figure D -1 or Figure D -2. Please include the subject
design specifications.
18. Page 4, Construction. Item 15 discusses the proposed gravity and pressurized HDPE
pipelines will be in a trench not less than 18 inches deep. DRMS is concerned with both
the gravity and pressure lines freezing during the winter and causing the pipe to rupture.
This would lead to unintended subsurface discharges, possibly impacting the hydrologic
balance and /or stability of roads and slopes in the vicinity of the pipeline. Please provide
some discussion on precautions to be taken to prevent pipe freezing. Include an estimate
of frost depth in the area.
19. Page 6, Reporting. The last bullet indicates "as- built" drawings will be prepared in the
third quarter of 2011. DRMS recommends this statement be revised such that the
schedule is tied to the date site access might be granted and seasonal limitations related to
field and construction work.
If either you or the applicants have any questions regarding the comments above, please call me
at (303) 866 -3567, extension 8169.
c: \documents and settings\sssUocal settings \temporary internet files \content.outlook \a5ghsruj \exhd -
selectworkplancomments mem22augl1.docx
