EXHIBIT D
Mining Plan
This exhibit adds a parcel of land to the existing permit M- 1982 -155. The plan makes no
modifications to the existing Fountain Pit permit.
Introduction and Overview
This amendment adds an additional 49.8 acre parcel to the existing Fountain Pit permit area
located east of Charter Oak Ranch Road. Access from the amendment parcel to the existing
permit area will cross Charter Oak Ranch Road near the existing entrance to the currently
permitted Fountain Pit site. During mining of the amendment parcel, most operations at the
current Fountain Pit will be complete and access from one site to the other will be minimal.
Permit Boundary Definition
The permit boundary for this amendment follows property lines on the north and northwestern
part of the property. The southwestern part of the permit boundary follows the section line
between sections 13 and 14. To the east, the proposed amendment boundary coincides with the
existing Fountain Pit permit boundary adjoining the amendment area to the existing permit area.
It is important to note that fence lines and property lines closely follow each other except for the
north boundary. The north property line does not actually follow the fence line. The fence line
is actually on Fort Carson property. There is a pin located on the west fence line 62.5 feet south
of the fence corner that marks the actual property corner. The actual north property line will be
marked to prevent soil and overburden stockpiles from being placed on the narrow strip of Fort
Carson property located just south of the fence line. If possible, the fence will be moved to
correspond with the property line.
Affected Land Boundary Definition
The affected land boundary essentially follows the permit boundary, although mining will not
necessarily extend right to the edge of the property. Between the edge of the mining area and the
property /permit boundary, much of the land will likely be disturbed by access roads, stockpiles,
or other mining related activities. In the Rock Creek valley, a sufficient amount of land is
included in the affected/permit boundary area to allow for a blending of the post- mining
topography into the undisturbed land that forms the valley bottom.
Nature of Deposit to be Mined
The gravel deposits on the high areas along Rock Creek and Fountain Creek are composed
mostly of alluvial Pikes Peak Granite. To the east and adjacent to Fountain Creek the rock
dimensions and type changes to more coarse rock composed of alluvial granite and gneiss.
Fountain Creek, being the main drainage when the deposits formed, carried much larger rock
from the north side of Pikes Peak and deposited it in highly variable beds. The Rock Creek
deposits, however, are much finer and more consistently granite with smaller amounts of quartz,
Fountain Pit M- 1982 -155
DRMS 112 Permit Amendment Page 4
