Spring 2011 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
Box Canyon, Apache Rocks, and South of Divide Mining Areas
III soil and colluvium derived primarily from the Wasatch Formation were observed along this
traverse.
Conditions observed along this traverse since fall 2009 (including the most recent spring 2011
field visit) represent pre- mining baseline conditions. A small slope failure was noted during the
most recent field visit (Location 4). Details associated with this location are discussed below.
Photographic Observation Point 13, as established in fall 2009, is also located along this traverse.
This point was created to provide an observation point for the elevated areas to the north of Dry
Fork where several of the E -seam Longwall Panel MDW drill pads are located. Further
discussion of this location is provided in Section 5.5.2.
5.5.1 Location 4
Location 4 is the site of a small slope failure not influenced by mining activities. This location is
above unmined E -seam Longwall Panel E4 in an area with approximately 800 feet of overburden
depth to the E -seam. The failure covers an area of approximately 6,000 square feet (0.14 acres).
Figure 16 shows a portion of the failed slope with the greatest elevation offset (approximately 3
feet).
831 - 032.793
September 2011
Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
