Soil Information
EXHIBIT I
At the end of this exhibit are some printouts from the NRCS website that describe many of the
typical characteristics of the soils present on the site. Please refer to Exhibit C -2, Soils Map, for
an illustration showing the distribution of the soils.
According to the Soil Survey of Larimer County, Colorado (United States Department of
Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service, May 2009), there are four major soil types within the
proposed project site:
1. Gravel Pits,
2. Loveland Clay Loam, 0 to 1 percent slopes,
3. Riverwash, and
4. Table Mountain Loam, 0 to 1 percent slopes.
The historic location of these soil types is illustrated on Exhibit C -2, Soils Map. Most of the
proposed Treiber Lakes site has been previously disturbed by mining activities. Soils depicted
on the map are primarily pre- mining (pre -1977) and likely only exist in isolated areas. Since the
original mining plan specified removal, storage, and re- spreading of site soils, it is expected that
soils on most of the site are a mixture of Loveland Clay Loam and Table Mountain Loam.
Gravel Pits
No true topsoil exists. Contains extremely gravelly sand and coarse sand from the ground
surface to variable depths.
Loveland Clay Loam
The Loveland Clay Loam is found on floodplains and stream terraces. Soils are typically
distributed on relatively flat land forms, from 0 to 1 percent slopes. Depth to groundwater is
typically 18 to 36 inches and the soils are occasionally flooded and poorly drained.
Riverwash
Riverwash soils are generally found on outwash terraces, overflow stream channels, and
floodplains. They occur where land form slopes are typically 0 to 3 percent and are somewhat
excessively drained.
Table Mountain Loam
Table Mountain Loam is found on floodplains and stream terraces with relatively flat slopes
of 0 to 1 percent. Soils are generally well drained with depths to groundwater of greater than
80 inches and the soils are occasionally flooded and poorly drained.
Treiber Lakes
DRMS 112 Permit Application
Page 19
