Pineda
Director
The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (the Division) has reviewed and found the
above referenced report to be in compliance with Rule 4.05.13(2). The Discharge Monitoring Reports
were received by the Division on July 18, 2011. The reports cover the time period from April 1, 2011
through June 30, 2011.
Nine CDPS outfalls discharged during the first quarter of 2011: Outfalls 001A, 002A, 003A, 004A,
005A, 007A, O10A, 011A, and 012A.
Colowyo's surface water monitoring activity revealed exceedances of primary effluent limitations
during the quarter:
• At Outfall 001A, maximum concentrations were exceeded for Total Suspended Solids and
Total Recoverable Iron in April.
• At Outfall 004A, maximum concentrations were exceeded for Total Suspended Solids and
Total Recoverable Iron in April.
• At Outfall 007A, the maximum concentration was exceeded for Total Recoverable Iron in
April.
• At Outfall 010A, maximum concentrations were exceeded for Total Suspended Solids and
Total Recoverable Iron in June.
COLORADO
D I V I S I O N O F
RECLAMATION
MINING
— &—
SAFETY
John W. Hickenlooper
Governor
Meteorological data provided by Colowyo to the Division suggests that the runoff during the
exceedances of April was due to snowmelt. Furthermore, the alternate limitation for settleable solids
was met at all three locations. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE)
was informed of the exceedances.
For the June exceedances at Outfall 010A, Colowyo has indicated that East Taylor Pond was receiving
runoff due to spring snowmelt and from spoil springs.
