SOIL LOSS COMPARISON - ROADSIDE MINE
RECLAIMED VERSUS BASELINE (ADJACENT) CONDITIONS
The following calculations are presented to determine if untreated drainage from the reclaimed Roadside
Refuse Disposal Area and Roadside Refuse Disposal Borrow Area are contributing suspended solids to
streamflow or runoff outside the permit area in excess of premining levels. Ponds 8 and Pond 9 collect run
off from the Refuse Disposal Area and Roadside Refuse Disposal Borrow Area. The majority of the
drainage area for Pond 8 has been released from the permit.
The baseline data for comparison are considered to be those conditions that exist in the adjacent area. The
adjacent area in this case is the Shadscale reference area. The vegetation on the reclaimed and adjacent
areas are presented in detail in Cedar Creek Associates 2010 Revegetation Evaluation and are summarized
below.
Shadscale Reference Area
Baseline
Total Perennial Cover +Rock
30.4%
Perennial Cover:
Grasses, etc.
4.10%
Forbs
0.30%
Shrubs
2.70%
Trees
0.00%
Other - Rock
23.25%
Total Perennial Cover +Rock
30.35%
Litter
14.05%
Total Perennial Cover +Rock +Litte
44.4%
,Canopy Trees and Shrubs
2.7%
Roadside Refuse Disposal Area
Reclaimed
Total Perennial Cover +Rock
31.2%
Perennial Cover:
Grasses, etc.
0.0%
Forbs
25.6 06
Shrubs
2.8%
Trees
0.0%
Other - Rock
2.8%
Total Perennial Cover +Rock
31.2%
Litter
18.1%
Total Perennial Cover +Rock +Litte
49.3%
Canopy Trees and Shrubs
2.8%
Roadside Refuse DI s osal Borrow Area
Reclaimed
Total Perennial Cover +Rock
16.9%
Perennial Cover:
Grasses, etc.
0.9%
Forbs
3.5%
Shrubs
8.4%
Trees
0.0%
Other - Rock
4.1%
Total Perennial Cover +Rock
16.9%
Litter
13.1%
Total Perennial Cover +Rock +Litte
30.0%
Canopy Trees and Shrubs
8.4%
TR-61 A14 -12 -1
03/11
