A scalehouse and scale were located in the northeast portion of the site.
PERMIT #: M- 1998 -104
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: DMC
INSPECTION DATE: August 24, 2011
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety's (Division) normal
monitoring program. Mike Coleman, representing the Operator, was present during this inspection.
Photographs are included at the end of this report in order to illustrate some of the conditions observed during
this inspection.
The Pine Ridge Pit is located approximately 5.8 miles southwest of Leadville and accessed from CR11A. The
site is a 112c operation that includes a total of 102.4 permitted acres, with a maximum allowable disturbance of
60 acres. The Division currently holds a financial warranty amount of $65,965.00 for this site. The Division
will review the reclamation costs for this site in order to ensure the financial warranty reflects the actual current
cost of fulfilling the requirements of the Reclamation Plan. The Operator will be notified if the Division
determines that the current financial warranty amount is insufficient.
Adequate mine identification signage was noted at the entrance to the site in accordance with Rule 3.1.12(1).
The affected area was marked by posts that were clearly visible and adequate to delineate the affected area
boundary.
According to the approved mine plan for this site, a 100 -feet buffer between the permit boundary and the pit is
to be maintained along the northern, eastern, and southern boundaries, and a 250 -feet buffer along the western
boundary. Mining did not appear to have extended beyond these buffers at the time of this inspection.
The approved reclamation plan requires that all final slopes be no steeper than 4H:1 V. Highwall reduction had
commenced in the east part of the pit. Due to the necessity of maintaining the previously mentioned buffers,
backfilling instead of cut and filling will be necessary to achieve the final slopes. This method of slope
reduction will be assumed when reviewing the financial warranty for this site. The pit depth appeared to range
from approximately 30 -40 feet.
Various materials stockpiles were located in the pit.
APC Solutions was operating a temporary asphalt plant in the west portion of the site. All of their equipment
appeared to be portable. All fuels appeared to be stored in appropriate containers.
No problems or violations were noted during this inspection.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Dustin Czapla at the Division of Reclamation, Mining
and Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501,
phone number (970) 243 -6299.
