OBSERVATIONS
PERMIT #: M- 1997 -039
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: PSH
INSPECTION DATE: September 7, 2011
The Williams /Illinois Gravel Pit, File No. M- 1997 -039, was inspected by Peter Hays with the Division of
Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) in advance of a future 110c to 112c conversion application to
expand the pit toward the south. Permit conversion information and forms can also be obtained from the
Division's web page at http: / /mining.state.co.us. Mr. Richard Wyatt with Wyatt Redi -Mix Company was
present during the inspection. No problems were noted during the inspection.
Financial Warranty:
The Division currently holds a financial warranty of $7,600. The financial warranty will be recalculated by the
Division during the 110c to 112c permit conversion process.
G compliance With Mi Plan:
The site is permitted for 9.9 acres and was previously inspected by the Division on September 24, 2008.
The site was active during the inspection. Processed material was being hauled from the site to the Wyatt
concrete plant in Walden, CO. The recent annual reports indicate mining activities are occurring in Stage 2
(west side) of the pit and Stage 1 (east side) of the pit is being reclaimed, which is consistent with the
observations made during the inspection.
The job trailer, crusher and conveyors are located in the middle of the pit. The active highwall is
approximately 8 feet high. A 300' x 50' area in the northwest corner and the southwest corner of the pit
remain unmined, but has been stripped of topsoil and overburden ahead of mining.
Reclamation Success:
Well vegetated topsoil and overburden stockpiles were located along the north and west permit boundaries
and on the pit floor. The large topsoil and overburden stockpile along the north side is being rescreened to
separate the topsoil, overburden and cobbles. The screened overburden is used for binder in road base
products. The screened topsoil is stored on the pit floor and used for reclamation as soon as feasible.
The eastern portion of the pit is in final reclamation. The area is approximately 3 acres and is delineated by an
eclectic cattle fence. The reclaimed area was sloped at 4H:1V and appeared stable. The vegetation consisted
of annual weeds. The operator plans to burn the weeds and reseed the area in the fall of 2011. The northern
portion of the pit will be reclaimed next after the remaining material in the northwest corner is mined. No
noxious weeds were observed during the inspection.
Signs and Markers:
An entrance sign was observed Tying on the ground near the entrance and permit boundary markers were
observed as required by Rule 3.1.12. The operator will need to reinstall the entrance sign.
Inspection Contact Address
Richard Wyatt
Wyatt Redi -Mix Co
690 Harrison Street
Walden, CO 80480
Cc: Tom Kaldenbach; DRMS
